Kickin' For Evan Benefit a Great Success

As many members of our community were aware, Middletown recently lost a  precious child, Evan Nesby, to a sudden passing. Evan was a beautiful, energetic fourth grade little boy whose memory still lives on in so many of his friends, teachers, neighbors and family members for a very long time to come. He has left behind a loving family and dear friends who miss him every moment of every day.

In an effort to begin the process of healing for the community-at-large, a group of friends and their families came together to play Evan's favorite game in his honor on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the major league baseball and softball fields at Aquidneck School.

What game you ask? Why kickball, of course.

Teams of Gaudet Learning Academy 4th graders coached by their teachers and throngs of spectators and supporters gathered together to play the game he loved and raise funds to help the Nesby family with the medical and funeral costs left after his passing.  In addition to donations made by event participants, the "Kickin' It For Evan" event was sponsored by a multitude of local businesses who covered everything from the cost of the team t-shirts to food for the concession.

"This day couldn't have been better," remarked a spectator and parent of three, "The beautiful weather and the beautiful people who make up this town are really something special. We are lucky to live here."
