Officials Close Peabody's Beach, Reopen Others

Health Officials have closed Peabody's Beach in Middletown due to high bacteria counts

On Friday, June 8, the Department of Health added Peabody’s Beach to it's list of recommended closures due to high bacteria counts.

Officials have recommended reopening Middletown's Third Beach, Newport's King Park Beach and Fort Adams State Beach, Bristol Town Beach, and Warwick's Goddard Memorial State Park Beach, based on water samples that show bacteria levels "within acceptable limits."

Officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend re-opening when the area is safe for swimming. Water quality analysis is conducted by the HEALTH laboratory or a state certified laboratory.

Wait, isn't Peabody's Beach RIGHT NEXT to Third Beach? How do you close one for high bacteria levels but open the other....?
