Bites Nearby: International Pocket Cafe Offers World of Flavors
Each week, Middletown Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.
The International Pocket Café lives up to its name, specializing in American and several Mediterranean cuisines. From the Middle East, they offer hummus, falafel, jedra, and tabouleh, served with pita bread. Greek favorites include stuffed grape leaves, spinach pies and Greek salad. Italian party platters full of sausage, meatballs eggplant, chicken or veal are served over pasta with garlic bread. Turkish espresso is available. The coffee is finely ground and sometimes mixed with cardamom, cinnamon, or nutmeg for flavor. What says American food more than Buffalo chicken, Philly cheese steak or a BLT? Add fried clams, scallops, shrimp or fish to the mix and you have to agree they have quite a menu selection.
When you walk up to the counter to order, you are offered a falafel with dip to try. When you check out, mini baklava finger samples are added to your order. The service is efficient and friendly and you can watch while they make your wrap, salad, sub or platters to order. You may eat in or take it out.

They are always friendly, and the food is great. Takes me back to a year I spent in Israel after high school.
