Coming This Fall: Road Race Across Newport Pell Bridge
The Citizens Bank Newport Pell Bridge Run will give participants the unique opportunity to run over the state's iconic bridge on Sunday, November 13, 2011
This fall, runners will have the opportunity to do something no one has ever done before–race across the Newport Pell Bridge.
Eident Sports Marketing, in partnership with Citizens Bank and the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority, on Friday announced the inaugural Citizens Bank Newport Pell Bridge Run, which will allow runners to cross the Newport Pell Bridge for the first time ever. The 4-mile race is scheduled to take place during Veterans Day Weekend on Sunday, November 13, 2011, according to a statement released early Friday.
Citizens Bank is the Title Sponsor of the 2011 Citizens Bank Newport Pell Bridge Run.
“Citizens Bank is honored to be the title sponsor of this inaugural event,” said Ned Handy, president of Citizens Bank-Rhode Island in the prepared statement. “We are proud to partner with the R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority to bring a unique, innovative experience to runners from all over New England.”
“Crossing the length of Newport Pell Bridge on foot will give the runners a breath-taking view of Narragansett Bay, and we’re happy to provide that opportunity to race participants without a major disruption to motorists,” said David Darlington, Chairman, R.I. Turnpike and Bridge Authority.
The 4-mile run will begin at 6:30 a.m. in Jamestown, next to the RI Turnpike and Bridge Authority headquarters, organizers said. The course will brings runners over the Newport Pell Bridge and into downtown Newport, finishing up at the Citizens Bank Washington Square Branch.

Proceeds from the Citizens Bank Newport Pell Bridge Run will benefit several local charities, including The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Newport, The Meeting Street School in Providence, and Special Olympics Rhode Island, according to the press release.
Eident Sports Marketing also assists in the organization of the Amica Marathon and Triathlons in Middletown each fall.
