Drive-Thru Threats Lead to Underage Drinking Arrests

The Middletown Police Department reported 14 arrests over the long holiday weekend between Friday, May 27, and early Monday, May 30.

arrested four young adults on charges including drunk driving and underage alcohol possession after investigating a complaint from staff at the on West Main Road. The staff reported that the youth threatened and swore at them from their car in the drive-thru.

The four teens told police they were “just messing with” the restaurant employees, but police who detected the smell of alcohol during questioning took the incident and the driver’s behavior seriously, leading to the arrests of four individuals in the car.

  • According to the arrest report, Andrew Ponte, 19, of 10 Maloney Lane, Middletown, was arrested on a misdemeanor first offense charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after police conducted a field sobriety test and he allegedly told police he had two beers earlier. He was also cited for refusing to submit to blood-alcohol concentration level (BAC) breath and chemical tests.
  • Kasandra C. Vandenburgh, 20, of 398 Main St., Phoenix, NY, was charged with underage alcohol consumption/possession. According to her arrest report, her BAC measured .192 from a breath test.
  • Henry D. Wiley, 19, of 4 Toni Lynn Terrace, Middletown, was charged with underage alcohol consumption/possession. According to his arrest report, his BAC measured .052 from a breath test.
  • Michael D. Flynn, 19, of 90 Fayal Lane, Middletown, was charged with underage alcohol consumption/possession. According to his arrest report, his BAC measured .069 from a breath test.

Marijuana charges

  • In the same car stop as above, police also arrested passenger Brandon Perkins, 19, of 9 Upper College Road, Kingston, on a charge of misdemeanor first offense marijuana possession.

DUI

  • Joshua Snizek, 28, of 2211 Riverside Ave., Somerset, MA, was arrested around 2:11 a.m. Sunday on a misdemeanor first offense charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the arrest, police stopped his car for a faulty headlight and a field sobriety test was conducted at the scene after police detected the smell of alcohol and observed bloodshot eyes. A preliminary BAC breath test allegedly registered a .157. He was also cited for later refusing to take a chemical test to further measure his BAC at the police station.

Disorderly Conduct

  • Richard S. Temple, 50, of 54 Benjamin St., Pawtucket, was arrested around 10:11 p.m. Sunday on a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge after police responded to the , where the owner had filed a complaint that Temple allegedly tried to attack him when he offered to call him a cab for a ride home because he appeared highly intoxicated. Police also reported that Temple was intoxicated at the scene and had an outstanding Second District Court arrest warrant for his alleged failure to appear and pay fines.

No Contact Order Violation

  • Melissa Sue Anne Castle, 29, of 54 Silva Ave., Portsmouth, was charged with violating a no contact order around 7:20 p.m. Sunday after Newport Police stopped her car and found her to have an outstanding arrest warrant issued for her alleged violations of a no contact order.

Shoplifting

  • Rose Marie Bard Kile, 56, of 67 Blue Grass Drive, Middletown, was arrested around 4:57 p.m. Saturday on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge. According to the arrest report, police recovered from her car several packages of cloth napkins and placemats that a store employee alleged she had stolen from the Bed, Bath & Beyond store on East Main Road. The items totaled $82.17 and she had no receipt for the items, according to the arrest report.

Domestic Vandalism

  • Russell A. Puerini, 54, of 55 Beachview Terrace, Middletown, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of domestic vandalism around 9:43 p.m. Friday night. According to the arrest report, Puerini was treated at Newport Hospital for lacerations to his arm and when questioned by police, he told them he had argued with his wife during a kitchen remodel project. When the argument escalated, he threw his hammer down and allegedly struck a window on the door with his hand, he told police.

Wanted

  • Sandra M. Williams, 41, of 12 Champlin St., Newport, was arrested on an outstanding arrested warrant just after midnight Sunday. According to the arrest report police stopped her car on Green End Avenue after recognizing her to have the outstanding warrant from the Second District Court for her alleged failure to appear at court for a restitution review.
  • Jacqueline T. Vita, 29, of 12 Greene Lane, Middletown, was arrested around 12:40 p.m. Sunday in her home on a misdemeanor arrest warrant issued from the Second District Court.
  • Carol A. Ney, 51, of 4 Buck Road, Apt. #A, Middletown, was arrested around 11:19 a.m. Friday at the Newport County Mental Health office on Valley Road on a misdemeanor arrest warrant issued from the Second District Court stemming from a previous charge of breaking and entering filed by the Portsmouth Police Department, according to the arrest report.
