Yesterday, a motor vehicle accident trapped an elderly woman inside her car until the Middletown Fire Department used “Jaws of Life”, the department's extrication equipment to open the door.

The accident occurred on the corner of Miantonomi and Boulevard around 11:15 a.m.

Her sedan was reportedly hit on the driver’s side by a truck, which caused substantial structural damage. The department said that neither door was operable.

The woman did not appear to have life threatening injuries, said the MFD. She was taken to Newport Hospital.

The driver of pickup declined treatment.

Totally not surprised. People run that stop sign in both directions on Miantonomi. I've almost been hit numerous times while running there.

One of the worst intersections in the state. Ask any insurance adjuster.
