Frances McDormand Spotted on Middletown Set of 'Moonrise Kingdom'

Filming began Wednesday at the empty storefront next to Michael's Crafts on West Main Road in Middletown.

Frances McDormand, who is best known for her role in the 1996 Coen brothers' film "Fargo," was spotted on the Middletown set of Moonrise Kingdom Wednesday afternoon.

McDormand was seen walking around 4 p.m. outside the Barnes and Noble on West Main Road on her way to set, which is located inside the empty store next to Michael's Crafts.

Today is believed to be the first day of filming on the Middletown set given the encampment of production vehicles and catering tent out front. Yellow arrow signs, pointing the way to set, were seen along West Main Road in Portsmouth and Middletown.

A rumor about Bill Murray being on Aquidneck Island also circulated around town today.

Moonrise Kingdom, the latest from acclaimed writer and director Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rushmore), is a story about two lovers who are pursued after fleeing their small New England town. The cast reads like a who’s who of Hollywood’s A-list, including Ed Norton, Bruce Willis, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, and Frances McDormand.

Filming will continue through the summer, with an anticipated 2012 release date. The movie has already filmed on Prudence Island and in South County.
