The Middletown Athletic Boosters Club surprised the Middletown School Committee at the August Meeting with a giant check for $22,500 to support the Athletics Program at Gaudet Middle School and Middletown High School.
The announcement was made by Tim Brown, Boosters Vice President and Shannon Lewis, Boosters Treasurer. The representatives shared with the School Committee, Administration and citizens in the gallery that the organization has come to understand that they can no longer expect to only help fund the "extras" in athletics. They explained that after meeting with the District Administration and Athletic Director, it was clear that the Boosters would have to do what they could to help support athletics in any way they could to ensure that the young athletes of Middletown have the opportunity to play. They appreciated the opportunity to partner with the district and the schools with the idea of keeping the "whole student" in mind.
The sizable donation also included the funding to replace the boys and girls soccer uniforms for the upcoming season. This need became evident earlier this year when the Rhode Island Interscholastic League released new specifications for these uniforms across the state.
In addition, the Club submitted an additional check for $3800 to be used to provide equipment to the Freshman Football team. These funds were raised, they added, specifically by the team in the past year to support their needs.
Brown and Lewis also announced that the upcoming day-long Soccer On The Turf Fundraiser would be held on November 10th this Fall at the Gaudet Turf Field.
