It was a perfect beach day but not for the athletes that make up the Middletown High School Varsity football squad. Sun and surf was the last thing on the list of things to do for this team as they split up into two evenly matched squads to "go beyond the drill" last Saturday at the Gaudet Turf Field.
To the delight of family and friends, this intense scrimmage was complete with helmets crashing, whistles blowing and high fives for a job well done.
This Blue and White Game, as it has been known from years gone by, has been resurrected by Coach Art Bell who grinned from ear to ear when asked about the upcoming season. This year's game roster has only one scrimmage against Rogers on the calendar. With so little preseason time in actual play, the coaching staff and players thought it was time to hit the field in a real game scenario to see where the strengths and weaknesses lie.
The team is looking forward to a great season with a new found desire to head back to Cranston for this year's Superbowl contest.
The next game on the schedule is the Injury Fund Game at home against Mount Hope High School at 6:00pm.

Hi Rick,
3 ways to get the schedule. 1) the district website at www.mpsri.net 2) www.highschoolsports.net and 3) right here on Patch as I will be posting the weekly Athletics At A Glance again this year. Hope to see you there!
