Teens Arrested After Burglary Reported at Town Councilor's Garage
The teens will appear in court later this month.
Two teens were arrested Tuesday night after reportedly stealing alcohol from the garage of Middletown Town Councilor Christopher Semonelli's home.
Mitchell S. Kalble, 19, of 141 Bliss Road, Newport, and Kelly Bullock, 18, of 372 Purgatory Road, Middletown, were arrested Tuesday around 11 p.m. on charges of obstructing a police officer. Kalble was also charged for transporting alcohol as a minor. Bullock was charged with possession/consumption of alcohol by a minor, according to the arrest reports. All charges are misdemeanors.
According to the report, police responded to a possible burglary in progress at Semonelli's home, located at 542 Wolcott Avenue. The burglary was reported by a neighbor, who witnessed several suspicious parties entering the garage at that location and then leaving in a van with "wood panels."
A police officer who located the van at 410 Aquidneck Avenue reported seeing Kalble and Bullock get out of the van and run. The police officer pursued them on foot and ordered them to stop, but the teens allegedly continued to flee. After further pursuit, Bullock stopped and was taken into custody, while other police backup units pursued Kalble in the Aquidneck Corporate Park area.
A 19-year-old then arrived on scene and informed police that Kalble had just called him from his cell phone while hiding in the tree line. At the request of police, the 19-year-old reportedly called Kalble back and asked him to turn himself in to police. Kalble then “crawled out of the tree line,” where he was placed in handcuffs, according to arrest reports.
Bullock allegedly told police that he had been drinking and that he and Kalble had taken alcohol from Semonelli's garage. Police reportedly recovered a backpack full of beer and a partially full bottle of Bacardi Rum from the youths.
Semonelli declined to press any charges against the two teenagers, according to police reports. Both were released and ordered to appear at Second District Court on Jan. 28, to answer to the alcohol and obstruction charges against them.
