MPD: Bench Warrant Arrest For Felony Drug Possesion
The following arrest was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Cody Williams, 21, of 20 Norman Dr., Tiverton was arrested on Wednesday at 1:45 in the morning on a bench warrant. Police pulled over a car at the traffic light on East Main Road and West Main Road because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, said police.
Police said a search on Williams, the passenger, turned up a bench warrant. According to state records, Williams did not appear for arraignment on a felony drug possession after an arrest by the Middletown Police Department last year.

For T.E.
Looks like someone has an issue with the The Middletown Police. Hmmm wonder what kind of record Mr. T.E. has. I bet it is all fabricated lies that the police made up to arrest him. Hmmm.
I love it when someone gets arrested (on whatever charge) and all these people come out defending the criminal. Oh he is a good boy. Oh the police set him up. Oh the cops are corrupt. Here's a new one grow the F*** Up and take responsiblity for your actions. Then maybe the world will be a better place. Oh yea by the way Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TE maybe I should have figured you for and engineer of some sorts.unfortunately the school did not get you above the 5th grade English comprehension level. You proved that with your first post after reading the article which laid out very clearly what happened. BTW, what have you produced during your career as an engineer...so I can stay away from purchasing one of them. When I graduated from RHS in 57 it was with a 12th grade comprehension level thank you.My family did not beleive in any summer school diploma.

Careful with your personal attacks. Someone might question your 12th grade comprehension whan you can't spell 'believe' properly.
My read of T.E.'s response was that it is highly unlikely that an officer could see into a dark car (at a light or not) to know if the driver had a seatbelt on or not. I've experienced the same thing over the years where I have been pulled over for a completely BS reason. While I understand their tactics (can't make arrests if they don't look for criminals everywhere), local police routinely look for the most inane excuse to pull someone over. That's the main reason I object to seatbelt laws being a primary offense. There is no possible way that an officer can verify seatbelt use in most situations, therefore, it is a BS excuse.

Middletown police work 12 hour shifts, if they are normal I'll bet they are board out of their minds. When board, like everyone else, you look for things to do. In this case, pull people over to say "hi!". I've been pulled over many times by MPD at the early hours and when they find I have a clean record, I'm not intoxicated, and being polite, they let me go say, "have a nice night sir". If Mr. Williams had shown up for court when he was supposed to, he would have slept in his own bed that night.

I applaud MPD. The guy has a warrant, not a misdemeanor warrant, but a FELONY warrant. For drug possesion none the less. I don't want this guy hanging around my town, not at 4pm nevermind 1am. One only knows what he was up to while he was here. But judging by the warrant, one can only assume it wasn't a law abiding reason. "Click it or Ticket......and maybe get locked up for an outstanding warrant" should be the new logo! Good job MPD. Keep throwing the garbage in the trash!
