MPD Make 7 Arrests This Weekend

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Man Arrested on Felony Marijuana Charge

Middletown Police arrested Andrew Springer, 27, of 138 Oliphant Lane, at 10:25 Sunday night on a felony subsequent possession of marijuana offense and an active bench warrant for failure to appear in court on a previous possession of marijuana charge.

Police said they recognized Springer driving in his father’s car and a search turned up the active bench warrant.  When they stopped Springer's car, police said he smelled of marijuana.

Police found jars containing marijuana, digital scale, a box of sandwich bags and two metal grinders in his backpack.   At the station, Springer said he uses the drug for personal use and sells it to his friends when they need it.

Police said he later denied that he is a drug dealer.

Returned Runaway Arrested

A 15-year-old Middletown girl was arrested on runaway charges after she allegedly returned home.  On Friday, her mother filed a police report that she had run away from home.  Her mother said she returned on Sunday, but police said she needed to bring her daughter down to the station for processing.

Police Make Two Arrests After Traffic Stop

Police pulled over a car at the intersection of West Main Road and Forest Avenue around 1:30 Saturday morning because a rear registration plate light was out. A search turned up that the driver, Joseph Testa, 47, of 8 Belverdare St., Johnston, had a suspended license. The passenger, Keivonna Briggs, 27, of 74 Lancashire St. #1, Providence, was arrested on an active bench warrant.

Police also cited Testa for presence of alcoholic beverages while operating a vehicle.

Police Discover Woman Not Assaulted, But Find Marijuana

Around 7:08 p.m. on Friday, police responded to Howard Johnson’s Motel to interview three women who are possibly assaulted outside of Applebees that evening.   One of the women, 48 year-old Jeanine Antone of 14 Coddington St, Newport, was found by the hotel’s indoor pool.  Police said she smelled of marijuana and when asked, she showed police she had the drug.  A search on Antone turned up she had an active bench warrant for failure to appear in court.

She told police she was not assaulted that night.

Antone was arrested and charged with a first offense possession of marijuana charge and a bench warrant issued from the second district court.

Disorderly Conduct at Hotel

Charles Kiser, 50, of 985 East Main Road was arrested on Friday at 9:00 p.m. after he allegedly was yelling and swearing in the Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge.  Kiser was charged with disorderly conduct.

Bench Warrant

Justin Maurice, 21, of 55 Linden St., was arrested on Friday around 8:25 p.m. on charges of an active bench warrant.

Donut place? Really? Wasn't that joke retired about 20 years ago? You both may think arresting someone for "one joint" is ridiculous but let's face it... It's illegal. That one joint could cause someone to be high enough to do something really stupid. It alters your mind, your actions. God forbid someone hurts you or one of your family members and the reason is because the person was high, already in a bad state of mind and acted out. I'm sure at that point you would really hope the police get there to help you. To put their lives at risk, like they do everyday, to help YOU. So before you go making stupid remarks remember that they would risk their lives for you and your just making stupid donut shop jokes or commenting on arrests they make. Shame on both of you.
