MPD Responds to 12 Storm Calls: Man Struck By Lightning
The Middletown Fire Department responded to 12 calls in a little over an hour this morning.
This morning's storm kept the busy. Chief Ronald Doire said the department responded to 12 calls between 8:20 and 9:45 this morning.
A male was taken to the Newport Hospital after a metal building at 185 Oliphant Lane was struck by lightning. According to the Fire Department, the man was standing outside and was knocked to the ground. He said he could feel the shock of the lightning. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, said officials.
"Fortunately for him, it wasn't a direct hit," said Chief Doire. "He was really lucky." Individuals inside the building reported that sparks shot out of the outlets.

"We prefer people not to be outside during a lightning storm," said Doire.

- Flooding issues at 170 Aquidneck Ave., 3 Bartlett Rd. & 12 High St.
- Medical calls at 18 Marshal Ln. 108 Rogers Ln. & 191 Forest Ave.
- Lightning strikes set of three fire alarms: 809 Aquidneck Ave., 1079 Aquidneck Ave., St George's School and 27 Lewis Drive. No fires were reported.
