MPD: Teens Paint Gang Calls on KVH Truck

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A 17-year-old Middletown teenager was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly vandalizing a KVH work truck. Video surveillance captured two teens that painted the word “SUWOOP, which is a gang call used by the Bloods.

The boys were idenfitied as residents of a group home across the street from KVH.

Both the boys had a red flag out of their rear pant pocket that was to represent the Bloods gang, said police.

Sean Skipper, 35, of 976 Chalkstone Ave, Providence, was arrested on Monday night at 10:45 p.m. for allegedly striking Middletown woman in the face, which split her lip.   The victim told police they were at a birthday party and she was tired so went home and fell asleep on her couch.  The door was left open and she woke up to Skipper trying to lay on top of her, she told police.

Kristopher Mancini, 22, of 249 Old Mill Lane, Portsmouth was arrested on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. on a bench warrant charge.

Excellent, we are importing crips and bloods from Providence into Middletown. These group homes are spread throughout the town and one is in mine. Fortunately for me, the kids are younger but I can tell you, I'm not happy about it. I tried to sell my house in '08 and a potential buyer found out about it and backed out of the sale. I live in Middletown for many reasons and one big one is it's away from the filth and violence from the cities. However it seems that element is sneaking up on us and expanding in a big way.

The gang activity is not only from the group homes. There are more Newport/Middletown kids from families who have lived on the island for generations that think they are Bloods, Crips, and Latin Kings than many would even imagine. It is not encouraging to hear at all but this has been going on since the late 90's. I remember hearing about it then when I was in high school. We have been very fortunate that the worst they have really done is spray paint and sell drugs. By fortunate I mean at least there aren't drive by shootings or anything and the activity has been going on over 15 years but the violence hasn't escalated. Not that any of this is ok, but looking on the bright side it could be a whole lot worse. We as a community need to stay vigilant and try to keep this gang infestation under control as much as possible.
