OMG PD: Left Out In The Cold
Take a look at some of the more compelling police reports from around the state.
Teacher Gets Heat for Chilly Punishment
Most elementary school students would probably jump at the opportunity to get out of a classroom and outside. In Cranston, two third graders have a very different experience when a substitute teacher used a trip to the outside world as punishment. According to a school official, the substitute sent the pair outside in chilly temperatures as punishment for talking during class. The teacher has been fired from the Cranston school system.
Drunk Man Fails to Break Into Own Car, Disappears
One North Kingstown man drew attention to himself during his intoxicated attempt to break into his own car. According to police, the man had been drinking at a restaurant in town and inadvertently left his keys in his car. Rather than call AAA, the man decided to take matters into his own hands – and by “matters,” we really mean a cinderblock he happened upon next to the restaurant. The man allegedly tried to smash in his window to get his keys, but the cinderblock broke apart on impact and the window remained intact. An officer arrived after a passerby called police. As the officer tried to help the man, he told him to stay put as he returned to his police cruiser. When the officer returned to the man’s car, he was nowhere in sight.
Double Whammy Fender Bender
One Coventry woman managed to hit not one, but two police cars in an early morning accident in East Greenwich this week. Two officers were in the middle of a traffic stop when the 49-year-old woman allegedly hit the first police cruiser, which in turn hit the second police cruiser. It was a close call for the officers and the driver of the first car, whom officers had to push out of the way to avoid being hit. According to police, the woman appeared to be heavily intoxicated and was brought to Kent Hospital where she became so combative that medical personnel had to restrain her.
Suspects Forget False Names
If you’re going to give police a fake name (which we highly recommend you don’t do, by the way), make sure you are consistent. A pair of Woonsocket residents, both of whom had active warrants, gave officers false names when they were stopped in a church parking lot last weekend, but had some issues maintaining the farce. According to reports, one of them spelled his name incorrectly several times. When police checked his backpack, they found his real name printed inside it, along with his age. As for the other suspect, police learned she too had been lying about her identity when they searched her purse and found her name on a credit card.

Yep this is an OMG list of stories here wow.
Would like to know how long the kids were outside as firing the teacher seems a little extreme in this case.

What if they were your children? Would that then be "a little extreme"? What if those children got sick or what if there were predators lurking around? What if.....
Our children are supoossed to be in the safety of the school system during school hours and if they are being mistreated, our school system is failing them and us. More often than not its the little things that turn into the extreme. Hence the creation of the AMBER ALERT. Lest we not forget.

geeze a little over the top the "g". First you do not get sick from the cold (check mayo Clinic). They did not say how long or where. If it was 5 or 10 minutes you bet I think it was extreme to fire the teacher. Your children are supose to obey the teacher and follow the rules and that is taught at home period. The school is for education not babysitting. Sorry but I disagree with your assumption on predators etc. The sun could have exploded also. Little to much drama I think there.
Wait for all the facts first. All I said is it sounded a little extreme for what the story says as it is very vague. I would be interested in what your solution is if the kids would not shut thier mouths well the teacher was trying to teach the other children who would be constantly distracted or worse figure that they could ignore the teacher and talk all day. So what would you do?
To take your what if.... What if that is teaching the whole class that you need not respect authority and can do what ever you want no matter the rules. Forget amber Alert with that as it is what creates the animals that prey on our children. The knife cuts both ways as they say. Of course this is my opinion, but I do tire of these extreme no tolorance policies whether with the teachers or the students. It should be case by case basis for both. It is just as likely a good teacher is now ruined for life and that will be a shame.

Maybe you should click onto the link, read the story there, and the other comments before you attack me. It clearly states the children were scared of kidnappers and also being caught outside where they did not belong. If you are a teacher you are supposed to be taught how to address misbehavior, attitude, disrespect, misconduct, or whatever situation may arise. If the situation interferes with teaching the next step would be to let the proper authortive figures handle the situation which this was elementary school so that would be the principal and I do not think the principal would have handled the situation by sending the children outside.

Sorry I have dyslexia. I read the link, The kidnapping sounds like a parents thought not a child. If the kids were taught to fear that, then why were they not taught to respect a teacher and follow the rules?
No I am not a teacher, but I am a parent and tired of all this stuff when parents will not take responsibility for their kids actions at that age especially. Firing is still way to severe to me. I doubt they were out that long and it sure has not been that cold.
I could hear the screaming for the principles head if he did handle it and took a no tolorence approach and sent the kids home making the parents pick them up. Other than that you still have not said what kind of punishment you think they deserve.
No self-responsibility is not something to teach kids. The real world has no sympathy for that and they need to learn that at an early age that actions produce punishment in the real world. Not changing my mind on this, unless like I said they were out in the cold for a long time, like more than 10 or 15 minutes which I still don't know.
Teachers should be teaching, not having to baby sit children who the parents have not taught a thing too. School is for education not social training, that is a parents job period and the reason for many ills in society today. Not deriding you, just giving what I see as the other side of the coin that few will discuss as the comments on the other thread show.

I also wonder if this is a first offence for the teacher or a pattern as that would make a lot of difference. If it is the only mark against this teacher, a reprimand would have been enough I would think. This whole thing is way to ambiguous and if the teacher is in a Union, I expect a fight by them which in my opinion they will win. However the taxpayers will lose because it will cost money as usual to fight the teacher getting thier job back.
I am not a fan of teachers Unions, however right is right and the penalty does not fit the case for me. I will also bet the contract has a clause about a proper hearing before such drastic action is taken, which seems to not have been followed here.
Did the teacher leave the class and take them to a door far away to put them out? Was the door to the outside right in the classroom? We will not know the actual circumstances without a hearing of both sides as our justice system demands and that is the shame in all of this if we do not. Well think I beat this horse enough ;-}

If the two little punks had keep their mouth shut and not disrupt the class we would not be talking about this would we. Just something to think about
