A small earthquake can damage bridges that have been neglected . RI has more substandard bridges than we can shake a stick at. Wonderful State (of disrepair ) these elected officials have created . There is a cure though, Think Tea Party

A tea party sounds great! You bring the tea and the Loyalty Oath, and I'll bring scones and some anti-gay marriage signs.

Seriously? The tea party would eliminate most regulations and taxes that are required to ensure safety standards are implemented and reviewed properly. I usually ignore idiotic ideas, but this one plays with our health and well-being.

You obviously don't know anything about the RI Tea Party, or their platform.
Mike. you are a follower and very misinformed. You support what we have now under a Democratic majority. 13.3 billion in unfunded pension debt. 60% of RI. bridges are deficient and in need of replacement. Our public buildings are deplorable . Several years ago there was Legionnaires' disease virus found in the AC. units at the RI Dept of Health . It caused by lack of maintenance. Just like our roads and bridges.

The kind of person who, even though they lack the inteligence to participate in a debate but never the less dominate by being the loudest person in the room. The kind of person who thinks that simply because everyone they know is like them, that they are represent everyone dispite the overwhelming proof that they are only about 12% of the general population, the same percentage of Americans who think that the world is flat and that they've been ubducted by aliens. The kind of person who will call anyone trying to help them a Nazi while themself using violence to try to force their political opinion, often going to terroristic extents. That's a teabagger.

No, Joe. Open your eyes. Someone needs to PAY for funding the pensions, fixing the bridges, maintaining public buildings and providing health care to those most in need. What you say is a lack of maintenance, I say is a lack of a combination of funding and appropriate management.

No, Joe. Corporate and human greed ruined Rhode Island and the rest of the country. I don't think I'm the one who is asleep. Rhode Islanders do pay more than their fair share of tax -- no argument there. However, I'm not yet willing to promote a tax structure that allows the same people who have abandoned their obligations to society and humanity to widen the ever-growing gap between rich and poor. I have a feeling that we are very different people who have had very different life experiences that have brought about very different outlooks and ways of thinking.

We are paying for it . RI spends almost 8 billion dollars annually . Wake up ! We pay the highest gas, and sales taxes in New England . The liberals ruined it.
Who in their right mind can say we didn't tax the people enough to pay for our road maintenance ?
Out of 50 states and the District of Columbia, Rhode Island ranks 4th nationally in terms of the
overall condition of the state’s bridges. (1 being the worst, 51 being the best.)

Why are you putting words in my mouth? Did I say I wanted to tax people more? I read through my post. Didn't see it.

And thanks for the data. What is your source? Would also like to know total number of linear feet of bridges, age of bridges, per capita amounts spent on bridges, etc. and compare that to the overall condition. I think there are many considerations beyond one lonely statistic.

Spare the corporate greed argument. The wrong people are running RI . We need a new legislature, and now. Government greed is the real battle. Corporations bring jobs for people giving them the ability to provide for them selves. Government has it's place, roads ,bridges, schools, and the military. Social programs run by government , sad state of affairs. Jobs give people the ability to take care of them selves .excessive taxation is a job killer.
Charity has always been part of our tradition . We don't need government to get involved . Every time we try it, it cost ten times more than it should. I have seen too much fraud, and abuse to let any one change my mind.

I have no intention of changing your mind, particularly since you continue to fail to provide me with the information I'm asking for that may change my mind...

1. Why are you putting words in my mouth? Did I say I wanted to tax people more?
2. What is your data source?
3. Any more statistics about bridges that can help shed some light and lead to an intelligent opinion?

The study references the age issue. As suspected, RI bridges are 8 years older than the national average. The report also states RI needs federal support (again, money needs to come from somewhere). The statistic you base your judgment on does not stand alone. As stated, there are many other factors. Would still like to understand differences in topography, linear feet of bridges on a per capita basis. These are all considerations. Not saying your statistic is not valid. Just saying I think we need to look at more statistics. Thanks for sharing, though. Interesting report.

The Projo has ran numerous stories on line , and in print over the last several decades. I have been reading about it for that long . Google search
I'm still waiting for the facts that show the Tea Party will not implement and reviewed properly

I asked you the questions because you used the lonely statistic.
And on the tea party... how can we pay to implement and review building standards properly when the tea party proposes lowering taxes, which pay for implementation and review) and cutting spending, which, you guessed it, pays for implementation and review? Simple math.

Buy cutting taxes business is able to grow ,creating jobs and tax revenue. The socialist model is failing in Europe. My guess is you aren't thinking of moving to Greece. This is the problem with liberals .They cant understand simple economics.

The Republican leadership has collectively decided to become the “Party Of No.” They don’t propose solutions. Or rather, they propose “solutions” that have time and time again been proven false. It doesn’t matter how many local and state economies they tank (see Colorado Springs and California for two models,) or how many Nobel Prize-winning economists dispute them (Krugs and Stiglitz,) their “solution” is always the same: cut social welfare programs and/or cut taxes.
When they’re not proposing “solutions” that don’t work, they’re obstructing real progress, or encouraging their ignorant, bigoted base.
If this isn’t the official Republican leadership, then Republicans should really stop voting for them. Every time a Republican leader says something stupid, or a teabagger embarrasses themself in front of a camera, someone pops up to say they don’t represent the “Real Republicans.”
Where are the real Republicans hiding? Who is their leadership? Is it Rush Limbaugh? Glenn Beck?
If you don’t want these people representing you, find new leadership. But don’t act annoyed when Progressives point out that the de facto Republican leadership preys on the fear of ignorant Americans.

Robert E, you state "It doesn’t matter how many local and state economies they tank (see Colorado Springs and California for two models,) ". Just wondering, what branch of state government in California has the majority of the power and control over the State? Could it be the, Legislature? And what political party has had an overwhelming majority of the California legislature for the past several decades? Could it be the, Democrats?

What planet do you live on?

The states and cities and countries that are the most deplorable have been run by Democrats or Socialists. Want a few examples?

Try illininois, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, California...

How about Detroit, Chicago, Providence, Newark, Washington DC, Baltimore

How about Greece, Italy, Portugal.

States like Texas, Florida, South Carolina have all thrived. How do we know? These states populations have risen while others have declined (accept for illegals or folks looking for an easy welfare check).

Oh, and we didnt get here by taxing too little. We spent money we didnt have.

As for specifics? Still waiting for Obama's plan. And Rogers locally? And Tsonos? And Furtado's

It's easy to thrive when you're at the bottom of the heap -- educational attainment, per capita income, etc.
