Plans for 92-Room Hotel Go Before Middletown Zoning Board Tonight
The Middletown Zoning Board of Review meets at 7 p.m. tonight at Middletown Town Hall.
Plans for a new 92-room, four-floor hotel for West Main Road come before the Middletown Zoning Board of Review tonight as developers seek a special use permit to build a hotel within a General Business District.
If approved, the 60,000 square foot extended stay hotel would be constructed on adjoining parcels at 310 and 348 West Main Road. The properties are located directly across the street from three other hotels—a 97-room Residence Inn by Marriott, a 95-room Hampton Inn & Suites and a 114-room Howard Johnson Inn.
The developers have come together as Mile One LLC, a partnership involving Kempenaar Real Estates Inc. based out of Middletown and First Bristol Corporation based out of Fall River, MA, according to Jeffrey Karam, vice-president of First Bristol.
Developers hope to begin construction in the spring of 2012, Karam said in an interview following the July 13 Planning Board meeting.
“This hotel will most likely be from either the Marriott or Hilton brands,” Karam said.
Kempenaar Real Estates Inc. developed each of the three hotels on the 300 block of West Main Road that would sit directly across from the new hotel, along with numerous other retail operations throughout Middletown and elsewhere in the northeast, according to the company website.
First Bristol has developed other hotels in Rhode Island and Massachusetts that include two Hampton Inn & Suites and a Marriott Residence, according to the company website.
