When police broke up a party at 468 Purgatory Road late last night, the Middletown Police and Fire Departments conducted a search for a girl that had reportedly fled from the scene. After looking for the girl with personnel and equipment such as night goggles and thermal imaging, she was found hiding at the house.
Around 11:27 p.m. Tuesday night, police responded to Purgatory Road for a complaint of a loud party. Police said the individuals at the house were under-21 and most appeared to be intoxicated.
Police said three teenage girls were instructed to sit down on the porch, but two ran off into the brush. Police said the other individuals at the house were cited for consumption by a minor, including 20 year-old Gordon Wallace, who told police the house belonged to his father who was in New York.
Police Begin Search
After clearing the residence, police checked the area for the girls who ran into the brush. Police said they stopped a Ford Expedition; the passenger was one of the girls who fled the scene. She was identified as an 18 year-old woman from East Greenwich. Police said she was intoxicated and covered in cuts and scratches from the brush. She was also cited for consumption by a minor.
Police said she called her boyfriend for a ride. When he arrived, she was stuck in the brush and required assistance to get free, said police. When asked about the other girl, she reportedly told police they got separated somewhere in the brush.
Police returned back to the house and asked Wallace if he knew the location of the missing girl. He allegedly told police she made it home to East Greenwich; but he was unable to verify or provide details. Police called the Middletown Fire Department to assist in the search for the missing girl.
The fire department used thermal imaging of the brush area. Fire Chief Ronald Doire accompanied police back to the house to ask Wallace about the missing girl. Police said he was evasive in answering questions, but he asserted she was safe at home in East Greenwich
East Greenwich Police were contacted to send a cruiser to her parent’s house to verify. Meanwhile, firefighters entered the brush area to search for the teenage girl.
Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes in Search Area
As the departments continued to search the area of Purgatory Road and Sachuest Point Road, a car reportedly crashed into the guardrail and stopped approximately 25 feet from an officer. The driver, 25 year-old Patrice Kathleen Dunne, of 4 Pippin Rd., reportedly said she was looking at the waves but saw cruiser headlights in front of her.
Dunne was allegedly intoxicated and was arrested for driving under the influence. She was brought to Newport Hospital.
Girl is Found Back at House and Wallace Arrested
The search was unable to locate the missing girl, so police responded back to the house on Purgatory Road. Police said they explained to Wallace the amount of resources that were being used to locate the girl. Police said Wallace finally admitted the girl was in the house and brought her out.
Wallace was arrested for obstructing an officer in execution of duty.
