Police Identify Victim Killed in Prudence Island House Fire
The fatal victim of a Prudence Island house fire last month has been identified.
The tragic news that friends and relatives believed to be true was confirmed by police Tuesday when officials confirmed the identity of a body found in the remains of a Prudence Island house fire.
Portsmouth police say the victim has been positively identified as 28-year-old Shannon Cubellis, a tenant of the property.
The victim was identified by the Rhode Island Department of Health through DNA testing, according to police.
Cubellis, who attended Portsmouth High School, was well-known on the island. More than 200 people attended a memorial service for Cubellis days after the fire, according to The Sakonnet Times.
The body was discovered in the remains of a fire, which destroyed a house on Sept. 25 on Prudence Island.
The fire, located at 0151 Concord Ave., began around 7:40 a.m. The house is located off Broadway on the island's west side.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
