RIDOT Wants Your Comments Regarding Tolls

The following information was provided by the Town of Middletown

The Town of Middletown received a notice from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) dated Friday, Jan. 4, concerning the proposed transfer of the Sakonnet River Bridge from RIDOT to the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority for the future tolling of that bridge structure.

It states that RIDOT will continue to collect written comments regarding the impacts that tolling would impart on the local communities through January 18, 2013. You may submit comments to:

customerservice@dot.ri.gov, or

Rhode Island Department of Transportation
2 Capital Hill
Providence, Rhode Island 02903
Attn:  Customer Service

RIDOT will consider these impacts as part of the environmental impact statement re-evaluation that it submits to the Federal Highway Administration.

More information is available on RIDOT's website, URL www.dot.ri.gov.

The reason we are faced with the tolls is due to the failure of our government officials. Highest taxes, highest unemployment, worst roads and bridges, failing education system. Yet the citizens don't hold the elected officials accountable and keep voting them all back into office. So if it is going to take a toll to get them out of office then bring on the toll, the higher the better.

The RIDOT is so desperate for money, they will try anything. These tolls are just the beginning. Let's try the VMT (Vehicle Mileage Tax). Watch this to arrive on the scene shortly. The DOT is financing all of those transportation bonds with about 30% of their budget. All of those ads about "keeping people workings in RI" was a real bust.
