Tell Us: Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

You might be surprised at the results of a poll on the subject.

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?

When it comes to season’s greetings, a new poll shows the majority of Americans prefer “Merry Christmas” to “Happy Holidays.”

According to a survey from Rasmussen Reports, 68 percent of people polled prefer the traditional “Merry Christmas” while just 23 percent like "Happy Holidays," which can cover a variety of occasions.

When it comes to holiday signs, a whopping 70 percent of shoppers polled said they prefer to be greeted with “Merry Christmas” in stores rather than the more neutral "Happy Holidays," according to a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

It doesn't end there. There have been "Christmas Trees" banned or replaced with "Holiday Trees," nativity scenes scrapped to avoid offending some, and the list goes on. Some say such things as “Merry Christmas” and nativity scenes exclude non-Christians.

The so-called “War on Christmas” has been a hot topic for years, with some saying “Merry Christmas” excludes non-Christians. Others believe the religious connotation behind the greeting does not belong in government or schools.

We want to know what you think. Take our poll and tell us if you prefer “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays.” Let us know the reason behind your preference in the in the comment section below.

I think people need to be less concerned with arguing about this, more confident in their faith and just enjoy the season. I say "Merry Christmas" but I take no offense to someone telling me "Happy Holidays" either. I think Jesus would be sad that something so trivial can put such a damper on this celebration of him.
I'm also tired of reading yet another article from the Patch meant just to cause conflict. Just my two cents.

If you're greeted with "insert holiday here" simply smile and wish them the best. I guess civility is one casualty of war.

Merry Christmas, as the reason we celebrate is for Jesus birth, not to spend and get ourselves into debt buying gifts.

I purposely say Merry Christmas just to piss of liberals. Our Circus Clown Governor calls a Christmas Tree a Holiday Tree. I would expect nothing less from that liberal meat head. Who voted for that clown? Merry Christmas Governor, stick that in your stocking

Has anyone actually seen that moron Chafee try and defend his stupid decision to name a Christmas Tree a "Holiday Tree"? I agree with Tom. Who voted for this moron? If you want to be really embarrassed for the State of Rhode Island, just watch the following video. You will cringe that this idiot represents our State. Get rid of this idiot before he does any more damage.

It was Merry Christmas when I was a child, it's still Merry Christmas now. Merry Christmas to my son Dave, age 39, he was adopted in the 1970's.

It's great to see that the Christian Intolerance of the last 1500 years that led to Hunderds of Thosands of people being put to death for being heretics and heathens has not changed. Forcing your beliefs on others even when they don't want them thats the true Christian tradition. Happy Holidays and Seasons Greatings to all
