The holiday season isn't (just) about gifts under a Christmas Tree.  It's the time of year many people reach out to others through holiday cards and holiday parties - as well as organizations that count on volunteers to provide vital services to the community.

Here are a few ideas to volunteer in Middletown:

• Sachuest Point is always looking for volunteers!  The wildife refuge is planning on re-opening at the end of Janurary after Hurricane Sandy threw cement blocks across the roads and weakened the banks. 
• Family Services/Newport is looking for volunteers in Middletown
• Clean Ocean Access organizes dozens of beach clean-ups every year in Newport and Middletown.  They are holding their 5th slideshow and fundraiser at Easton's Point Pub in Middletown on Janurary 25 at 7 p.m with four bands, free food and information on how to get involved.    Tickets sell out every year, so must purchase in advance.
• Through Serve Rhode Island, you can search for service and volunteer opportunities by zip code and using keywords.
