Weekend Arrests: Disorderly Conduct at the DMV, DUI, Vandalism

The following information is based on Middletown Police Department arrest reports and does not indicate any convictions.

Disorderly Conduct at the DMV
Joseph Cordeiro, 49, of 4B Ludlow Rd. was arrested Friday afternoon around 4:08 p.m. on a disorderly conduct charge.

Police arrived to the DMV on Valley Road after they received a call that a man had a gun.

When police arrived, Cordeiro reportedly raised his arms, but police said that patrons did not appear alarmed. Police said it did not appear that Cordeiro had a weapon.

A witness told police that Cordeiro was pacing the inside of the building and making statements that he had a gun and that he was going to kill everyone. He reportedly was also acting irrationally and doing push-ups on the floor.

Corderio allegedly told police he did not know what was going on and was frustrated, but did not have an intention of hurting anyone. He was arrested and was transported the Newport Hospital for evaluation.

Search results were negative for weapons.

Driving Under the Influence and Vandalism

Steven Rajnert, 21, of 70 Lake Ave, Middletown, NY, was arrested on Friday at approximately 10:21 p.m. on charges of driving under the influence, weapons other than firearms and vandalism. He was also cited for refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police pulled Rajnert over after he was clocked traveling 47 mph on West Main Road and was allegedly swerving across the double yellow lines.

Police reported they saw an aluminum baseball bat in the car and when they asked Rajnert what it was for, he allegedly said he needed it for protection. Rajnert reportedly asked multiple times to get out of his car to look for his wallet that he thought “jumped out of his lap” during the stop.

After failing the field sobriety tests, police put him under arrest. He allegedly threatened the arresting officers and cursed at them during the ride to the station.

During his private phone call, he allegedly stood up and slammed the handset on the table. Police reported he became angry and threw the handset and swept the table clear with his arm.

Police restrained Rajnert and placed him in a cell. Police reported they then heard a series of loud bangs and when they went to investigate, they saw wet blood on the glass window and on Rajnert’s knuckles.

According to police, his violent behavior continued. He allegedly punched and kicked the walls, put the blanket into the toilet and yelled obscenities. Police reported he was placed in handcuffs and leg shackles until he calmed down when he was then processed without incident.

Vincent Slaninka, 31, of 8 Halsey Ave. was arrested on Sunday around 3:45 p.m. on two active bench warrants from the Third District Court.

Joseph Hopkins, 35, of 47 Lorraine Street, Pawtucket, was arrested on Sunday around 9:58 a.m on two bench warrants issued from Superior Court and one bench warrant issued from the Third District Court.
