Last month, Patch asked readers what were Middletown's most ignored stop signs. We received over 30 responses from concerned residents.
Today, Patch would like readers to comment on intersections that should have a stop sign, but do not.
On Tuesday, Town Council Vice President Bruce Long asked his fellow council members to consider a stop sign at the intersection of Oakwood Road and Wood Road.
"It has been brought to my attention by several neighbors that vehicles are driving through without slowing down, thereby creating a dangerous situation," said the councilor in a communication. The request was forwarded to the Middletown Police Department for review.
Should Middletown consider other intersections that might need a stop sign?
Once we receive your comments, Middletown Patch will put out a poll to determine what residents believe are Middletown's most dangerous intersections. Patch will then send the feedback to Middletown Town Council and the Middletown Police Department.

if people cut back hedges around the int it woud not be half as bad i dont see a need for a stop sign there why slow down green end traffic even more that hill is brutal during the summer if people didnt always use it as a cut through it would not be bad

The worse intersection in town is right in front of the fire department. It should be a three way stop intersection. At present it is a disaster just waiting to happen.

green end and paradise should have a 4 way stop. People fly through there.

Agree. Fly is an understatement. Cars regularly hit 60mph on that side of Green End. Shocking for a residential neighborhood.

Green End Ave and Turner really needs to be a 3-way stop. People fly through it and there have been many accidents with people cutting the corner!

I agree with all of the above...also, a stop is desperately needed at the end of 3rd Beach Rd. where it ENDS at Mitchell's and Wapping Rd....there is a lot of traffic...especially in the summer (with Sweetberry and Howland Park there) and folks ignore the "yield" sign that is there now...I live off of Wapping and travel that way several times a day and have gotten almost rammed many times.....Please put a stop sign at the end of 3rd Beach Rd/Mitchell's/Wapping before someone gets hurt.....it is an accident ready to happen....

All I know is that there is some crazy logic in establishing some intersections. For example, coming up the hill at Green End Ave and approaching the intersection of Boulevard/Bliss Mine Road, you come to what is essentially a "T". Logically, you would think the "top of the T" (i.e., Boulevard/Bliss Mine) would have the right-of-way. But no, Green End has the right of way, permitting a 90-degree turn to the left or right without stopping. If you're from out of town or are not familiar with the intersection, and are approaching it either from Boulevard of Bliss Mine, and aren't paying close attention, it's easy to miss the stop sign, increasing the probability of t-boning a car entering the intersection from Green End.
This illogical "T" pattern is repeated at several other intersections on Aquidneck Island, such as Spring Street (top of the T with stop) and Morton Ave (no stop) in Newport.
Plus, one cannot help but mention the Connell Hwy rotary. Out-of-towners simply do not know the yield rule for rotaries, and many locals just ignore them, turning it into a game of "chicken."
