What's Open and Closed in Newport and Middletown on Christmas Eve

A look at what businesses and government offices are open, closed, or closing early on the Christmas Eve holiday in Newport and Middletown.

 

Christmas Eve is upon us and with the holidays falling on a weekend this year, many businesses and government offices would be closed in anyway, but here’s a complete list of important places in Newport and Middletown and their Christmas Eve schedules: 

U.S. Post Office Newport offices are open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Middletown office is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Regular mail delivery.

Newport and Middletown Public Schools — Closed.

Newport City Hall and Middletown Town Hall— Closed all day.

Newport and Middletown Libraries — Closed all day. 

Middletown Senior Center — Closed all day.

Grocery Stores

Restaurants and Retail Stores

  • Restaurants and stores will be open at their own discretion. Please call ahead.

Banks

  • Bank Newport, Middletown, is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • People’s Credit Union, Newport, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with drive-up hours from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Middletown branch is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with drive-up hours from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Citizens Bank, Middletown, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Newport Federal, Middletown, is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Transportation

  • Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will operate under its normal Saturday schedule today. To view schedules, click here

  • All state offices are closed today.

Federal Offices, Stock Market

  • Federal offices and the stock market are closed.
