Winter Weather Advisory in Effect
A snowfall of three to six inches, temperatures in the 20s, and northeast winds of 15-25 mph are in the forecast for Saturday.
Hello winter!
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for this area, from 2 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday. In addition to Rhode Island (including Block Island), the locations affected include Massachusetts and northern Connecticut.
The NWS Winter Weather Advisory describes accumulations of 4 to 6 inches of snow: "Snow will overspread southern New England after midnight from west to east. The majority of the snow is expected to fall from mid morning into the early afternoon. Snow is expected to diminish late in the afternoon into the evening."
The advisory is in effect partly because of the expectation that the snow will accumulate quickly, given the cold temperatures, and that surfaces may get icy. The low tonight is forecast for 20 degrees, and the high tomorrow expected to only reach 29 degrees.
Northeast winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour are forecast for tomorrow.
During the snowiest spell, visibility could be limited to one-quarter mile, according to the advisory.
In addition, the NWS warns: "When temperatures are below freezing, motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop."
