To anyone who is working to collect more Relief supplies for New York and New Jersey.   

AND ALSO IF YOU MISSED THE BOAT (well plane) last weekend – and I know some of you did – here is a second chance.  

Local pilots from Middletown have committed to lifting at least 7,000lbs of supplies tomorrow morning at 9:00am when the weather breaks for the better.  Nearly triple what was already delivered last weekend.  They are hoping to fill the planes with necessary supplies to help the folks victimized by Hurricane Sandy.

An appeal for blankets (not sheets) was added this morning. 

Current priorities are:

Winter coats – Adults and Children

Sleeping  Bags

Blankets

Feminine Hygiene Supplies

Diapers

High energy food

No summer clothing please!  
It is snowing in NY and NJ this morning.

Packing:

Please remove all surplus packaging so we don’t fly unnecessary weight. 

Repack goods in clear or white plastic trash style bags to keep them clean and dry.   Black trash bags are hard to see what is in them for stowing and distribution.

Diapers cardboard boxes are heavy and unwieldy and hard to stow – please repack diapers in plastic bags.

Compress as much air out of the bags as you can before tying them.  ESPECIALLY Sleeping  bags.  Try and compress them down to firm solid blocks.  They can fit more in that way.

Keep bag weights to units of AROUND 5lb, 10lb, 15lb, 20lbs.  Bigger heavier bags can be problematic as we try and distribute weight evenly in the aircraft so it
flies correctly – This is a safety of flight issue. .

Please  accurately weigh and mark the bags with their weights.  This is also a Safety of Flight issue.  The pilot depends on you getting these numbers correct so
aircraft do not fly overloaded which is DANGEROUS.

You can drop donated items off at the Airport Building at Newport State Airport, 211 Airport Road, Middletown RI 02842 before 7:00pm tonight!
