Islander Wrestling Hits the Mat Against Hendricken

Middletown 12 Bishop Hendricken 63

The Middletown Islander Varsity Wrestling squad met up against the toughest competition available last night against Bishop Hendricken.  Unfortunately the Islanders have fallen in yet another match leaving them 0-9 in Division I standings.

But don't let their record fool you, they wrestled hard on the mat.  Victories were collected by Joe Rutledge ,  Jaxon Thibeault, and Preston Ferreira.

The Islanders had a spectacular match at 138 Ygor Maipira going into double over time sadly losing 2-1.  Each athlete never fails to disappoint fans with there agressive and smart style win or lose.

The islanders will be at battle again tomorrow night in Woonsocket in a tri-meet with Warwick Vets and Woonsocket starting @ 5 PM.

The next home match will be 2/5 vs East Providence.  These events are exciting to watch.  Come out and support the team.

Numbers are down and its unfortunate. Wrestling was the one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It was hard...mentally and physically. To walk out on that mat, in front of family and friends, knowing you are going to battle one on one with no where to run, is simply couragious. Its much easier to play video games and text than to challenge yourself with a sport like wrestling.
