When asked what it felt like to be selected as this year's Teacher of the Year, Sharon Bissonnette smiled from ear to ear and responded, "I am humbled by this honor. To be selected by my peers in a district where everyone is such a great professional is special and humbling. Middletown is a very special place and I am honored to be a part of who we are here."
In a formal announcement by Central Office, Superintendent of Schools, Rosemarie K. Kraeger stated:
It is with a great deal of pleasure that I formally announce the selection of Dr. Sharon Bissonnette as the 2012 Middletown Teacher of the Year.
Sharon has been a Speech/Language Pathologist, since 1994, serving with dedication and commitment to not only our preschool special needs students, but to ALL students. Sharon earned her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Rhose Island in 2009. Her dissertation, "The Effects of a Peer Mediated Intervention on Language and Reciprocity in Young Children with Social Communication Disorders" aligns with her beliefs and focus "to help build a strong foundation in communication and social pragmatics for all students." She works everyday to embed social skills into the curriculum while finding the unique strengths, interests, and experiences of each student. Her selection comes as a confirmation of her varied abilities and expertise. For those of us who have worked with Sharon, we know this selection is a tribute to her professionalism, her collaborative style, and her caring ways and serves as an inspriation to us all. One of her colleagues shared," Dr. Bissonnette is an incredible resource and she is always willing to assist all children. Sharon is a wealth of knowledge as well as a proponent of inclusion." What a tribute!
Sharon, we are proud of you and salute you as . . . Middletown Town Teacher of the Year!!!!
