There are some who bring a light so great to the world
that even after they have gone, the light continues.
Two years later......

It was two years ago today that we received the heartbreaking news that no one ever wants to hear about our son SGT. Michael F. Paranzino. Where has all that time gone? There were minutes and days that in of themselves seemed like eternities yet as we look back, so much is a blur. But a few important things stand out. First and foremost is that Michael died serving his country and his sacrifice means a great deal to a great many. He is loved and will be remembered as our hero forever. This world is a better place because of Michael. He touched the lives of many people who he cared about and who have benefited because of him. He leaves behind parents, his wife Lindsey, his sons Logan and Max, his brother Daniel, and so many friends and fellow soldiers that it is impossible to name them all here.

His family appreciates the outpouring of support and caring that has come our way from our community, the military, and so many of his friends and our friends and associates. He has been the focus of special honors including the dedication and naming after him of the SGT Michael F. Paranzino Army Reserve Center that is on the Newport Navy Base. Also, this past summer the Quonset Air Show that featured the U. S. Air Force Thunderbirds was dedicated in Michael’s honor. During that experience Max and Logan met with the Thunderbird pilots, received gifts and autographs from them and enjoyed the opportunity to touch the jet that had their father’s name painted onto it for that day. Afterward, 4 ½ y o Max ran back to us and exclaimed “this is the best day of my life”.

We have been on special journey since this all started. Some days have been a struggle for sure. Our grief continues and shows up from day to day in so many little ways as well as in some overshadowing and very big ways. Most recently we attended a grief workshop that was sponsored by TAPS, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. Needless to say it was a very emotional day but it was well worth it. It reinforced for us the value that is associated with having known and loved our son and in always remembering and honoring him. We hold onto the idea that he set an example and that he inspires us. Going forward we hope live up to that example.
