If you attended newportFILM's January Mini-Fest, you know this coming weekend is not one to miss...

newportFILM gives you the opportunity to have one last tourist-free hurrah in Newport before the scene crawls with weekend warriors. Join them at the May Mini-Fest, May 11-12, at the historic and iconic Jane Pickens Theater.

Presented by Franklin and Company Design Associates, the Mini-Fest kicks off on Friday night with a pre-release screening of Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present in partnership with the Newport Art Museum at 7:00pm, with wine and food reception to precede it at 6:00pm.

This documentary will take you inside the world of seductive and fearless artist Marina Abramovic, following her as she prepares for what may be the most important moment of her life: a major retrospective of her work, taking place at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Post-film Q&A with Producer of the film, Marcus Ricci - don't miss this unique experience.

Saturday night’s pre-release screening presents Under African Skies (Paul Simon’s Graceland Journey) at 7:30pm, with wine and food reception to precede it at 6:30pm.

25 years after Graceland‘s release, this documentary follows Paul Simon as he reunites with his South African collaborators, and revisits the controversy the album caused, while luminaries like Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, Lorne Michaels, David Bryne, and Sir Paul McCartney share their thoughts on what the album meant to them.

Also followed by post-film Q&A.

Tickets for both nights are $12 for film and Q&A only, or $20 for wine and food reception, film and Q&A. Reception food will be generously provided by Pasta Beach both nights.

Saturday afternoon’s agenda begins with the Oscar Nominated, A Cat in Paris, at 1:00pm. This French dubbed English film is for ages 5 to 105 (adults will love it too!). Tickets are $5 for children under 12, and $10 for adults.

This film is a warm and richly humorous love letter to classic noir films and the stylized wit of the Pink Panther cartoons, sprinkled with references of such film classics as Goodfellas and Reservoir Dogs – and Dino, the literal cat burglar, manages to steal the show with little more than a subtle swish of the tail and quiet mew.

In partnership with the Potter League for Animals, Saturday's matinee film is a pre-release screening of Quill: The Life of a Guide Dog, a Japanese language film with subtitles (all ages film, appropriate for kids of reading age). The film starts at 4 p.m., tickets are $10. Take away doggy treats provided by Wag Nation!

Based on a true story, Labrador Retriever Quill’s life as a “dog” drastically changes when he leaves his mother’s side in order to become a seeing-eye dog. The bond between Quill and his partner, who rediscovers the joy of life, grows deeper with each passing day. Until one day, they face a sudden and sorrowful parting.

Also not to miss is post-film Q&A with Jim Hazlin (...and puppy!) from Guiding Eyes in Connecticut.
