There is always something very special about a parade but the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Newport gives everyone a chance to be "family" and "Irish" for the day. Listening to throngs of Fifth Warders remind me that there are two kinds of people; those who are Irish and those who wish they were. For this weekend, no truer words could be spoken.
Local businesses, civic organizations, schools, talented musicians, police and fire departments seem to come out of the woodwork to share some island spirit and wish each other some cheer as if to say, "Spring is here and I want you to know that I happy to be here and happy to share this time with you."
What a wonderful way to bring out the "community" in everyone. Meeting up with old friends and making new ones seems to be a common theme from Newport City Hall to the reviewing stand at St. Augustin's Church.
So, in case you missed the fun, I hope you enjoy the photo journal of my time on the parade route. Happy St. Patrick's Day to one and all.

Carmela,
This is the closest I can get to the parade and the many wonderful memories of being in the rain now that I live in California. Thanks for posting such great photos!

Thank you for the photos of the Nevin dancers. We know the parents and will forward! One of the dancers was from Boston so she will be so pleased to see her daughter's photo! Happy belated St. Patrick's day!
