Does anyone in Middletown think Newport County can survive without the money day trippers folks spend?
Do you want to have to buy a transponder to access major highway?
Are you you really going to fall for the "Hey, we're gonna let you leave through Bristol for free," deal?
Gonna buy another transponder for your wife or kids if they have to leave the island?
STOP THIS MADNESS, Sign the petition, ask for one and make copies!
Use the power you have as a voter NOW, not later, NOW. School starts, take a copy to it, anyone who vote should sign this. Make it a lesson in civics!

TOLLS? Elephant? yup it's the real elephant in the room, see it leave the tolls right where they are an raise them anyone useing that bridge for any reason knew they were going to have to pay and knew tolls would rise, make it $6.00 bucks for no transponder or out of state one and drop it to 50 cents for residents, sorry to put this fight right where it belongs, but its the truth

Jim, I think a lot of people in Middletown are very upset about the proposed tolls. It's the biggest discussion in the bar lately - but nobody knows what to do.
If you would like to drop off a petition, I'm sure people will sign it. We are at 116 Aquidneck Ave.

I sent this Email out to our congressional leaders . Send that email now and we have a chance to stop this.
The transfer of the bridges requires Federal approval . We need you to step in to stop this transfer. The Federal Highway Admin. has the application . We need action fast to stop this from happening. This will hurt businesses on and off the island. It's not to late to stop this plan and save our businesses .

Easton Point i will be down today with copis of the petition, any else? if you can please make copies or i can e-mail it to you, yesterday i got over 500 signatures from 5 places if yours is full please let me know
think of this with all the modern ways of communacation used now, it would be nothing for and business to walk away from this island and open shop else where, just to stop paying money to go to work, the folks that depend on tourist and locals will get hammered by job losses from both parts of their lively hood, must have been one hell of a deal cut somewhere to kick so many folks in the A,

I am involved with the Portsmouth Business Association and STOP (Sakonnet Tolls Opposition Platform) to fight against the tolls on the Sakonnet Bridge. To find out how you and any group can help, call my office during the day at 682-2007.
TivertonSTOP has several subcommittees (information, letter writing, legislative, media and more). They could use the help and can be reached at TivertonSTOP@gmail.com. STOP is working on a list of alternatives ideas for revenue to present to the legislators and working on a media campaign.

TOLLS? DEBATE!!! The last question of the debate between Mr Doherty and Mr Ciiline was about the TOLLS, This is how far you people have come, thats how important it has become, Once again Mr Doherty affirmed his stance that he would do anything in anyway he can to stop new TOLLs on the Sakonnett River Bridge, To me i have to say the with all the different different voters that have signed petitions I , we, you, me us, should take support anywhere we find it, Again this is working, WONDERFULLy, finast kind as Hawkeye would say, We have election day coming up, a pretty important date for Stop and donttoll, but remember the big prize comes in Jan. when we somehow have to get this job killing ,money sucking, double taxing, idea removed as a burden placed squarely on the taxpayers of Newport county, NO TOLLS

Jim are you using a TTY device to post of patch? Tough to read! Anyway, you realize you are spamming patch with "No Tolls" and it's exhausting. Some times your comments about the tolls are in articles that have nothing to do with them. How do you feel about religion? "NO TOLLS!" What did you eat for dinner? "NO TOLLS" I think Chaffee should just make you pay tolls alone just to open your mouth or sit at a computer.

Cheese Ball When you or someone you know loses their job and then can't buy a transponder to look for work off the island get back to me l, I will gladly show them how I can get around the tolls forever, many Newport county residents can't and it a double gas tax on every resident of Newport County Sorry for trying to help you out, but lots of others still count to me and each other

Jim, stop giving other excuses other than YOU don't want to pay.83 to cross a bridge. You are cheap and all the others that are from tiverton and Portsmouth are too cheap to pay. I pay my fair share and ill fight to make sure you do the same.

Stanley Martin, First yes I very cheap, thats why i spend about $40.00 dollars in gas and printing everytime i make my rounds. Cheap? I porbaly could drive around the tolls or the rest of my life so your .83 cents comment is just silly Stanley, you see the problem is not the tolls, it, the econmic effect they will have on Newport County. If you don't understand that or can explain to me how new TOLLS cutting the island off from the rest of the state, sending all the money to the Bridge boys and making Newport County residents pay double gas taxes is good then fire away I rarely have this arguement but at times it comes up and my repley to it is what I said

I would say that 65-80% of our summer traffic comes over the newport bridge. NY CT and MA people mainly use rt 95. If they don't put a toll on the Sakonnett bridge they will raise the Newport bridge so your argument about people not spending money is moot. Ive been paying the toll all my life and im sick of the residents that don't ever pay it trying to tell my some other reason than they dont want to pay.

Now that election are over I would hope that the newly elected council will take a standfor or against the new tolls on the Sakonett river Bridge, . Also the DOT has sheduled meeting with the voters of Portsmouth, Tiverton,Llittle Compton, ans Adamsville in early December, . It's seems that the the DOT and the RITPNBA think that tolls will have no impact on Middletown or doesn't want their voices heard, With all the signtures gathered in Middletown I find that Middletown voters and bussiness have a major interest in this issue and the state is going to just slide i by Middletown voters, YOU THE PEOPLE OF MIDDLETOWN MUST STOP THIS, Join with the other Newport county towns to stop this taxpayer ripoff from ever taking place. Now is not the time to settle back, for if we do the TOLLS will once again become a done deal, join STOP and donttoll or paY AND HAVE YOUR CHILDREN AND GRAND CHILDREN BE PAYING TO SUPPORT THE REST OF ri FOR YEARS AND YEARS
