DESCRIPTION:The Norman Bird Sanctuary\, with its 235 protected acres of w
 oodlands\, wetlands\, open fields and rocky ridges\, supports a rich lic
 hen diversity with distinct lichen assemblages. Its coastal location als
 o provides an opportunity to study the maritime lichens of southeastern 
 New England. We start with an introductory talk on the most common liche
 n species found here\, then walk through woodlands and along the Purgato
 ry Conglomerate or "puddingstone" ridges of the Hanging Rock Trail to a 
 view of the Atlantic Ocean.\nPreregistration required at www.riwps.org.
