DESCRIPTION:Join NBS' expert birders\, Jay Manning and Rachel Holbert as 
 they head north to Plum Island\, one of New England's best birding hot s
 pots for spring migration.\nPlum Island is a natural barrier island stre
 tching along the Massachusetts Atlantic coast between the mouth of the M
 errimack River to the north and the mouth of the Ipswich River to the so
 uth. The low\, shrubby vegetation found on Plum Island offers birds many
  feeding opportunities and protection from the elements.&nbsp\; The Park
 er River National Wildlife Refuge protects three-fourths of the island a
 nd includes 6.5 miles of sandy beach\, approximately 3\,000 acres of sal
 t marsh\, three managed fresh water impediments\, and one of the few uns
 poiled dune-beach complexes still existing in the Northeast. Located alo
 ng the Atlantic Flyway\, Plum Island is of special significance to water
 fowl\, hawks\, warblers\, and shorebirds\, including the federally threa
 tened piping plover. This trip is not to be missed!&nbsp\;\nThe van will
  depart promptly from the Sanctuary at 6:00 AM and return at 4:30 PM.&nb
