Newport County Community Mental Health Center, Inc. (NCCMHC) will sponsor its 5th Annual Tour de Newport Bike-a-thon Sunday, September 22nd at 9 a.m. to generate support for its Children's Intensive Services (CIS) program. CIS serves children ages 2-18, many of whom have experienced overwhelming trauma and suffer from emotional and behavioral difficulties, while providing therapeutic, clinical programs to children who are at risk for costly hospitalizations and academic failure.
Children are given the opportunity to receive care and treatment which enables them to develop coping and relationship skills needed to thrive in the everyday world.NCCMHC’s goal in sponsoring this family-centered, health-focused event is threefold: 1) To raise awareness about the beneficial treatment options that NCCMHC currently provides; 2) To do our part in the effort to erase the stigma associated with mental illness through advocacy and education; and 3) To raise funds in support of CIS programs.
Last year's Bike-a-thon boasted over 160 riders, from over 7 states as far west as Minnesota!
Free t-shirts will be given to all registrants and a raffle with over $1,600 in prizes will be held the day of the event!
Donations can be made online at www.active.com/donate/nccmhc2013.
