A Great Day for Gaudet Robotics Team at the First Lego League Championships

Members of the Gaudet Middle School Robotics team had a great showing at their second RI First Lego League State Championships at Roger Williams University this past Saturday.

Coming off a win in the Mechanical Design category and a strong score in the robot game, at the Salve Regina Qualifier, the Gaudet team was optimistic that their many hours of hard work could pay off big at the State Championships.

They started the day with a Robot Game score of 367 – good enough for first place through the first round.  At the end of the day though, three teams had bested their efforts leaving Gaudet in fourth place – a respectable showing for a second year team.

However, at the final ceremonies, team 1446(Gaudet Science Laboratories) was called to center stage to accept the first place trophy in the Mechanical Design category of the robot awards.

The Mechanical Design award “recognizes a team that designs and develops a mechanically sound robot that is durable, efficient and highly capable of performing challenge missions.”

Their robot was “…ruggedly built, consistently performed well, and combined multiple tasks…” according to judges.   The award was a testament to the team’s long hours of practice and commitment to a goal.

Congratulations to the Gaudet Middle School Robotics Team – Team 1446 Gaudet Science Laboratories
