Aquidneck Island Bikeway Project Funded

NEWPORT, RI – The Aquidneck Island Planning Commission will formally announce initial funding for the Aquidneck Island Bikeway Project on July 15, 2013.  This announcement will take place at the former Midway Pier on Burma Road in Portsmouth.  AIPC encourages Newport County residents and biking enthusiast to join their Congressional delegation including Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Representative David Cicilline appointed and elected officials, state agencies and its generous funders for this announcement. 

 

The event is open to the public and will include a speaking engagement with information from the delegation and AIPC about the Bikeway Project, including an overview of the project and the next phases of implementation.  Following the talk refreshments will be served and a group bike ride will be held along Burma Road.  Anyone interested in joining the group ride are required to register at the event.

About The Aquidneck Island Bikeway Project:

The Aquidneck Island Bikeway Project originated in 2011 as part of AIPC’s Aquidneck Island Transportation Study (AITS).  The recommendation to pursue a Bikeway on the Island came from a consensus decision by over a dozen federal, state and local agencies working together with AIPC.
