Free Hospitality Training Program - Mandatory Information Sessions Dates

Newport Skills Alliance, a program of East Bay Community Action Program, in partnership with Rhode Island Hospitality Education Foundation and Aquidneck Island Adult Learning Center, will hold a free hospitality job skills training program for Rhode Island residents beginning January 16, 2014.  Those who are interested in participating must attend one mandatory information session.  Upcoming information sessions will be offered as follows: December 9, from 1 – 2:30  pm at Child and Family Service, 31 John Clarke Rd in Middletown; December 10, from 9:30–11:00 am at EBCAP/Jean E. Hicks Center, 19 Broadway, 2nd Fl, in Newport; December 11, from 10 – 11:30 am at the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street, in Newport; December 16, from 10 – 11:30 am at Child and Family Service, 31 John Clarke Rd in Middletown; December 16, from 1 – 2:30  pm at EBCAP/Jean E. Hicks Center, 19 Broadway, 2nd Fl, in Newport; and December 18 from 11:30 – 1  pm at EBCAP/Jean E. Hicks Center, 19 Broadway, 2nd Fl, in Newport. 

                The hospitality training will consist of 11 weeks of work readiness/soft skills training, internships, contextualized math and reading classes, job tours, site visits, panel discussions, and resume and interview preparation. Participants will also receive the following certifications:  S.T.A.R.T. Certification, ServSafe® Food Handlers, ServSafe® Alcohol, First Impressions: Exceptional Customer ServiceTM, and Hospitality 3rd LanguageTM.  Details will be shared at the information session. Classes will meet for five hours per day, five days per week, Monday through Friday.  Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a reading level at or above 7th grade and math level at or above 6th grade.

                Upon completion of the training participants may choose to pursue such jobs as: Kitchen Steward, Chef’s Assistant, Guest Room Attendant, Bar Back, Banquet Setup, and Host/Hostess.
