Dr. George Kates’ name is well known to generations of Aquidneck Island families as a knowledgeable and kind pediatric dentist. Now after 30 years in practice, Dr. Kates has retired from his practice but is handing the torch to Dr. Faith Drennon, to ensure that children on the island continue to get top-notch preventative care and treatment for generations to come.
“Good oral care is an important part of overall health,” said Dr. Drennon. “I’m committed to helping parents and their children feel comfortable here, beginning with their first visit at age one. I will strive to help parents and their children understand the connection between oral health and overall well-being, while teaching good oral hygiene practices.
“By partnering with Newport Pediatric Dentistry at an early age, their children will receive regular six month check-ups, x-rays (when needed), fluoride, and dental sealants. Together, our office will work with parents to ensure that their children will never experience a cavity. We’re here to help families stay happy and healthy.
“My interest in pediatric dentistry developed when I saw how underserved populations and children with special needs had limited access to care. I’m here to help everyone, regardless of their economic situation, physical or mental challenges. Newport Pediatric Dentistry welcomes all children and their families,” she added.
Dr. Faith Drennon is a graduate of The Medical College of Georgia’s School of Dentistry and Boston University’s advanced education program in pediatric dentistry. She has worked as an associate in private dental practice for six years and has relocated to Newport to live close to the ocean (a lifelong dream), to her fiancée (a Newport wedding is planned for next summer), and to live in the same community where she works. “I want to be able to greet my patients on the street and know them by name,” Dr. Drennon concluded.
Dr. Drennon assumed her new role on July 1. Although Dr. Kates will no longer be practicing dentistry, he will be helping Dr. Drennon with the business transition. However, Dr. Kates’ entire administrative and patent-care staff has been retained by Dr. Drennan. “They are the pillars of the practice. It is important that our patients see the same faces in order to maintain comfort in the practice and I’m very grateful that the staff has given me their vote of confidence,” said Dr. Drennan. “Together we can build upon the solid foundation that has been laid and make improvements to keep the practice convenient, helpful and relevant to parents today.”
“Dr. Drennon is bright, caring and experienced. That’s reflected in her decision to create continuity for our patients here at Newport Pediatric Dentistry,” said Dr. Kates. “I had the pleasure of taking care of two generations of families on the island and now I’m leaving the staff and patients in the good hands of Dr. Drennon to care for the next generations’ needs,” he concluded.
