Middletown Stoked for Thursday Night Beach Bonfire

Only two beach bonfires remain this summer in August and early September.

The Middletown Parks and Recreation Department is all fired up for two more beach bonfires this summer.

The next bonfire is scheduled for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at Second Beach. The final summer beach bonfire will take place in early September at a date to be announced, according to Parks and Recreation Director Tim Shaw.

The bonfires, which are free and open to the public, continue to be a big hit among families each summer season in Middletown.

Besides the massive 12-foot wide entrenched bonfire, the town Parks and Recreation Department and other organizations typically provide fun activities for the kids, such as face painting, coloring booths, and games.

A blaze that size also lights up the beach quite nicely as residents enjoy cool nighttime ocean breezes after the heat of the day has let up.

Tip

Stick around until the very end. The Middletown firefighters often let the kids (and adults) hold the fire hose to help douse the massive fire, setting off a thick cloud of sizzle, pop and steam that becomes a whole new event itself!
