Strong Thunderstorms To Hit Area; Flash Flooding Possible

A strong thunderstorm is being tracked near Hopkinton, traveling east at 30 mph.

Strong thunderstorms are expected this afternoon for Newport and Washington Counties. 

As of 1:46 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was being tracked near Hopkinton, traveling east at 30 mph. 

The storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 40 mph, locally heavy rain and pooling in low-lying areas. 

The storm is expected to hit South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Newport, Westerly, Portsmouth, Middletown, Narragansett, Hopkinton, Prudence Island, Richmond, Exeter, Jamestown and Charlestown. 

Residents are being advised to not drive through flooded areas. Torrential rainfall is expected.
