Viewfinder: Summer Fun by the Setting Sun

Mother Nature did not disappoint in preparing for tonight's Community Bonfire at Second Beach in Middletown. A gentle ocean breeze, mild temperatures and the rolling surf attracted the attention of dozens of families to enjoy all that this midsummer event had to offer.

Middletown residents and visitors from across the country spent the day or came specifically for the sundown festivites which included a roaring bonfire, piped in music and children's activities offered by the Middletown Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force. 

Tim Shaw, Director of Recreation, explained that this is the third summer that the Town of Middletown has sponsored this family-friendly event that is offered to the public free of charge.

Under the watchful eye of the Middletown Fire Department, bonfire enthusiasts were treated to a spectacular and safe fireside show.

The next Community Bonfire is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011 at 7 p.m.
