Volunteers Remove 175 Pounds of Debris from Sachuest Beach

But there is concern since 136 people removed more than a half-ton of debris on March 8, prompting some to ask where it's coming from.

Seventeen people worked hard on Thursday in the windswept sands of Sachuset Beach in Middletown, removing a total of 175 pounds of marine debris from the shore and surrounding area.

The cleanup, sponsored by Clean Ocean Access, was a success and "a great team effort," organizers said, but buried in the good news is cause for alarm.

"On March 8th a team of 136 people scoured this area and removed 1143 pounds of trash. Where is this stuff coming from?"
