A Howling Good Time at the Doggy Fashion Show

Canine couture draws numerous spectators to Rough Point's lawn.

They wagged their tails, jumped on audience members and even froze halfway down the runway. At the second annual Doggy Fashion Show, the dogs stole the show as they modeled canine fashions under perfect skies on Rough Point's oceanfront lawn.

The event, a fundraiser for Newport Restoration Foundation and the Potter League for Animals, drew a large number of attendees who nibbled cookies from Mad Hatter and sipped wine from Bellevue Wine and Spirits, while their canines crunched on treats from Wag Nation before the show.

After a missing doggy outfit had been retrieved backstage, the show kicked off at 6:15 p.m. and featured 13 pooches modeling clothes from the Newport boutique, Wag Nation, and their owners who sported clothes from Bellevue Avenue shops including Angela Moore, Laura Jean, Sequin, Hooley Boardroom, Portobello Jewelers, The Tennis Store at the Hall of Fame and Rib & Rhein. Sara Schlieff-Ross, owner of Archbeauty Skin Care Salon & Boutique, provided makeup.

Lynne Wieder, owner of Wag Nation, emceed the event, while special host Kimo II, Rough Point's 13-year-old canine in residence, watched from the sidelines.

A highlight of the show was meteorologist Ron Trotta and Schmitty the Weather Dog, an adorable Yorkshire terrier, who strutted the runway to "Singing in the Rain." Trotta modeled in an avocado green silk and linen jacket and striped Robert Talbott tie from Michael Hayes, while Schmitty donned a tiny weatherproof jacket.
