Deadline Extended: 'Beautiful Middletown' Photography Contest Submissions Due Friday

The Middletown Historical Society announced that entries will be accepted through Sept. 9, 2011. This year's theme is "The Four Seasons of Middletown."

The has extended its deadline for submissions for the second annual "Beautiful Middletown Photography Contest," with this year's theme being "The Four Seasons of Middletown."

The Middletown Historical Society sponsors the annual contest with the support of the Newport Art Museum & Art Association.

Due to Hurricane Irene, the deadline was extended for all non-professional photographers to take part in the contest, with submissions accepted through Sept. 9, 2011.

All entered photographs must be taken within the Town of Middletown, Rhode Island and must be submitted as hard copy prints, with dimensions of 11 inches by 14 inches or smaller.

Prints can be mailed to PO Box 4196, Middletown, RI 02842 or dropped off at Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Each print must be accompanied by a photo information sheet containing the title of the photo, name of the entrant, address, phone number and email address.

Entries are limited to four per photographer. The entry fee is $5 per photographer.

Judges will include a volunteer panel from the Photography Guild of the Newport Art Museum.

Winners will be announced at the Middletown Historical Society’s event scheduled for 10 a.m. to  4 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Paradise Park, located at the corner of Paradise and Prospect avenues.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners. The grand prize winner will receive a certificate that can be applied to a photography course of his or her choice offered by the Newport Art Museum, Minnie and Jimmy Coleman Center for Creative Studies.

All entrants will receive admission passes to the Newport Art Museum.

Officers and members of the Board of Directors of the Middletown Historical Society and their immediate families are ineligible to enter this contest.
