Frugal Family: Free Entertainment This Week and All Summer Long

Looking for ways to entertain the kids all summer without breaking the bank? We've got you covered.

  • SWEET BERRY FARM SUMMER SERIES
    Deal:
    Enjoy the free sounds of popular regional bands such as Los Sugar Kings, The Elderly Brothers, Abbey Rhode, Wellstrung, and the Lois Vaughn Jazz Quartet while dining on either a specially prepared prix fixe meal ($15.95-$18.95), a la carte from the farmstand or with your own picnic from home.   
    Good through: Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. through August 2 and Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 August 9 to August 30.

  • Deal:
    Head down to King’s Park for the free music of bands such as Legend-The Bob Marley Tribute Band, the Big Cat Blues Band, the Greg Sherrod Band, and Michael Walsh while enjoying views of the harbor and letting the kids play on the playground.
    Good through: Sundays from 3 to 6 p.m. through September 11.

  • Deal:
    The Newport Recreation Department will present free family friendly concerts at Easton’s Beach featuring bands such as Larry Brown’s Swinglane, the Rockin’ Soul Horns, and the Dick Lupino Band against the backdrop of the of Easton’s Bay.
    Good through: Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. through August 9

  • Deal:
    Bring the little ones down to Easton’s Beach for free performances by favorite children’s entertainers such as the Toe Jam Puppet Band, the UNH “Little Red Wagon Tour,” and magician Tommy James.
    Good through: Thursdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m. through August 11
  • BALLARD PARK CONCERTS IN THE QUARRY
    Deal: Ballard Park’s unique quarry will be the setting for free concerts by popular local bands Sidewinder, Mark Quinn & Friends, and The Foreverly Brothers.
    Good through: Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. through July 20.

  • Deal:
    Trinity Park will be the place to catch NewportFILM’s free outdoor screening of “Life in a Day,” a compilation of 80,000 video clips shot by average people around the world on July 24, 2010 and edited by producer Ridley Scott and Oscar-winning Director Kevin MacDonald into 90 minutes of film.
    Good through: Thursday, July 7 at sundown.
