A roundup of the best bets in town to keep your family hopping for the weekend of July 30-31.


  • Where/When:
    Dunkin' Donuts on Friday, July 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Try one of Dunkin Donuts’ new sandwiches: the tuna salad, tuna melt, or chicken salad sandwich for free with the purchase of a drink while supplies last.

  • Where/When:
    on Friday, July 29 from 5 to 6 p.m.
    Why Go:
    If you haven’t yet taken the opportunity to learn what you can do to live a more environmentally friendly life, this class is geared toward beginner conservationists, recyclers, and composters.

  • Where/When:
    on Sunday, July 31 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
    Why Go:
    If you’ve always wondered about the way worms live, now is your chance to find out and to make your own wormery too! Just bring your own one-quart jar.

  • Where/When:
    on Friday, July 29 at 7 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Whether you’re looking to re-capture an era gone by decades ago or you can’t wait to hear the music from their new album "World Gone Crazy," the Doobie Brothers are sure to put on an unforgettable show.
    Pricing:  $55 standard seating; $75 preferred seating

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, July 30 at 7:30 p.m.
    Why Go:
    One of America’s most well known insult comics with a flair for raunchy comedy will bring her show to the City by the Sea.
    Pricing:  $45.50

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.  
    Why Go:  For the first time ever, the Newport Folk Festival sold out two weeks in advance of the show, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t check it out. One of the best places to view the festival is by boat, anchored off Fort Adams' shore. So find a crew and catch The Decemberists, Delta Spirit, Gillian Welch, Elvis Costello, EmmyLou Harris and dozens more.
    Pricing: Free if you can find a boat, kayak, or other floating device for one of the coolest seats and hottest tickets in town.
