Get Out: Irish Jig with Your Dog, Benefit Dinners, Irish Bus Tour, and More

This weekend's calendar includes several benefit dinners and continues the celebration of the Irish.

Whether you are looking to take in some history, help out a neighbor, or hit the dance floor...with your dog, there is something for everyone in Middletown on this weekend's planner.


  • Where/When:
    on Thursday, March 17 at
    Why Go:
    Enjoy a three-course dinner and sunset views over Newport Harbor to benefit the Environmental Education programs.
    Pricing: $50, not including taxes, tip and beverages; Call for reservations.

  • Where/When:
    on Friday, March 18 at 6 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Teach your pup (5+ months) how to do the Irish Jig in this agility class that is just as fun for the owners as it is for the dogs.
    Pricing: $10; Pre-registration required.

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m.
    Why Go:
    Meet at the for danishes and coffee at 9:30 a.m. before the bus tour of Irish Newport sponsored by Viking Tours and the Museum of Newport Irish Company heads out at 10 a.m. for a lesson on Newport’s Irish heritage.
    Pricing: Free, but donations are accepted. Reservations required.

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, March 19 from 3 to 10 p.m.
    Why Go: Help support Betsy Vivieros with her battle against cancer by enjoying a spaghetti dinner, live music with Four Play, dancing with DJ Butch, a children’s craft table for kids, and a silent auction and raffle.
    Pricing: $10 for adults; $5 for children under 12; $25 for a family of 4.

  • Where/When:
    on Saturday, March 19 at 6 p.m.
    Why Go:
    A full corned beef and cabbage dinner served up by Peter Vallaincourt will be offered following Saturday evening Mass. Open to all.
    Pricing: $12 per person or $25 for four tickets; Advanced ticket purchase suggested.

  • Where/When:
    Seaman’s Church Institute on Sunday, March 20 from 4 to 6 p.m.
    Why Go:
    Join local co-authors of “The Twelve Metre Class,” Dyer Jones and Jan Slee, for a discussion on 12-metre yachts that will include topics ranging from the 104 year history of the class, the Olympics and the America’s Cup and its revival.
