Haunted Shipyard Opens Thursday Night

A ship with no captain and no crew.  The screams had all gone silent.  The doors were barred.  The gates were chained.  The tales of horror were long forgotten…until now.

Starting tomorrow, the will soon be the site of many gasps and screams as it hosts its first annual event Thursday through Sunday evenings from October 20-23 and 27-30, as well as Halloween night.  The Haunted Shipyard features an interactive, theater-style guided tour that takes its daring participants through Pier 23 as the guide describes the pier’s frightening history. Other attractions include the Spooky Wharf recommended for ages 10 and under and The Armory featuring the Great Zombie Shoot.

The haunted tour of Pier 23 offers visitors a new spin on the traditional haunted house.  Instead of random gore and violence, visitors are able to learn about the shipyard’s creepy history.  But for those in it for the thrill, don’t worry, there will be plenty of jolts and shocks in this interactive theatrical experience.  Recently, the chains have been cut to the shipyard’s doors and Pier 23 will be open for all to see from 6:30-9:30 pm on Thursdays, Sundays and Halloween and 6:30 – 10:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The younger guests who are not quite ready for the tales of terror from Pier 23 can visit the Spooky Wharf which will feature trick-or-treating, the Tiny Tunnels of Heebie-Jeebie, and picking from the wicked witch’s caldron, as well as Stormy Seas Bumper Boats.  The more creative visitors can also make monster masks.  The Wharf opens at 5:00 p.m. every night of the event and remains open until 8:00 pm on Thursdays, Sundays, and Halloween, and 9:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.  The Spooky Wharf is recommended for ages 10 and under and is a “scare-free, lights-on” event.

Haunted Shipyard attendees will also be able to test their aim in a battle of good versus evil at The Armory featuring the Great Zombie Shoot, presented by RI Paintball.  Find out who will be left standing as wicked demons, ghoulish banshees and mischievous monsters lurk in the shadows.

For those looking to take a break from the jumps and jitters that go along with the Haunted Shipyard, or just feel the need to refuel, stop by the Creepy Canteen.  The Creepy Canteen will be serving plenty of food and seasonal drinks.  For attendees over 21, there will be beer, wine, and a full bar.  The Canteen opens at 5:00 pm and will remain open until close.
